Apple Rum Cake

Cake - Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining cake ingredients through apples in order listed. Mix well. Pour into greased, 9-inch round cake pan or pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes. Rum Sauce - Melt butter. Add brown sugar and boil 1 minute. Add cream and boil a few more seconds. Remove from heat and stir in rum extract or rum.
